Gabby CastroI chose to critique a show that comes out on FOX called How I Met Your Mother. My brother constantly talks about how this show is hilarious and how it is one of his favorite comedy's. When he says this, I get tempted to watch it, but usually never do. Today, while I was sitting on a bench eating my breakfast, one of my friends whom I hadn't seen in almost two years went as sat down next to me. We began talking about whats "new" in our lives, when suddenly he asked me if I had seen the last episode of How I Met Your Mother. After this, i decided i would watch it. Before watching the show i was expecting it to make me laugh 90% of the time, have funny lines, good actors, and an interesting plot. I came up with these expectations because of what everyone would tell me about the show. I watched 1 episode and I wasn't very amused with what I saw. I didn't laugh very much, actually I don't think i did at all. The script was nothing out of the ordinary. The actors I have to admit did meet my expectations, I think they are all great actors. Lastly, for my taste in shows, i felt that the plot was very dull. Maybe it makes it difference that i haven't been watching it since the first season, but this is how i felt watching my first episode of How I Met Your Mother.
Dominique MaezI decided to critque buying shoes. When you are looking for a good pair of shoes you need to make sure that they are comfortable, sturdy, stylish, that they fit, easy to put on. For myself I had to find a pair of shoes that had backs and did not have any type of mesh on them. This ruled out a lot of different typles of shoes such as high heels, sandals, crocs, etc. In the end I found a pair of boy shoes that did not have any mesh, are sturdy, comfortable, and something that I can walk in all day.
Haley AndersonI chose to critique Disneyland. Disneyland does it's best to ensure everyone's safety as well provide excellent entertainment when visiting the park. Unlike other theme parks disneyland keeps their park sanitary in every aspect from the bathrooms to the actual ride itself. For instance the trams provided at magic mountain for guests are tagged with graffiti, the paint is chipped and the seats are sticky whereas Disneyland's trams are fully refurbished and spotless for guests. Overall Disneyland has met every one of my standards in every way.
I chose to critique a song called Whiskey Lullaby. When I first heard this song, I did not think I was going to like it because of the beat; i usually like listening to song that i can sing to at the top of my lungs while driving or doing some cleaning at home. This song has a soothing beat to it that might even seem depressing. Once I listened to the lyrics, it grabbed my attention more. The rythm this song has makes it creative yet still interesting for the listener. The singers, Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, both have amazing voices which put the finishing touch to Whiskey Lullaby.
I have chosen to critique my home-made cake. My personal expectations of cake is that the cake itself should be soft, moist and fluffy. The icing, to me, should fluffy, light and not too sweet. Too sweet and/or heavy of a frosting can completly ruin a good cake. I made some variations to the cake I made and crossed my fingers it would turn out ok. I also experimented with my home-made icing by adding some ingredients I dont nomarlly add. I thought for sure that this cake wasnt going to be the greatest cake Ive ever made, but was hoping it would at least be edible. Once everything was all done and assembled, I let it chill for an hour in the fridge. Once desert came, my anticipations were over. It was delightful!! Soft, moist and fluffy cake, with one of the best icings I have made yet!! Im glad I took the risk for trying something new, rather than sticking with the same 'ol same 'ol (though... my same 'ol same 'ol is delicious too), otherwise I wouldnt have found my NEW icing recipe.
Mayadah Saef I am going to critique a song because one of my friends texted me all of a sudden and just told me that she really love this song called “Quickie” by Miguel and that it’s been in her head for a few days now. So, I decided to listen to it since I haven’t really heard it. But before I looked up the song, I had my own imagination of how the song might be since she kept saying I have to listen to it because it’s “beautiful”… anyways, excluding the fact that the title already sounds horrible, I imagined that the singer had a really nice voice, the lyrics would be pleasant, and lastly, the beat would be great and worth listening to. So when I played the song on Youtube, I noticed that the beat was pretty slow and kind of boring, the singer’s voice was actually alright, so that wasn’t really a problem, and the words that he was saying were unexpected. I don’t know, but over all, the song was pretty lame, no offence to anyone who likes this song for whatever reason, but it was really bad; maybe because I was really expecting it to be good and it didn’t turn out as good as I thought it would have? I don’t know, but that’s pretty much what happened.
I chose to critique a Korean music video by pop girl band, 2ne1. Their newest release, "Ugly", has come to my attention. After relentlessly viewing and over-analyzing recent video, I have finally concluded my perceived conjecture. Simply, the video and lyrics define the most frequent problem of autonomous desires- the dissatisfaction of ones own appearance. Based upon the video, the physical actions performed and the lyrical content seem to not correlate. In my perspective, the rebellious and jubilant nature, the happy smiles, the powerful presence of the girls, represent this difficult task, acceptance. “I think I’m ugly, and nobody wants to love me. Just like her and I want to be pretty, don’t lie to my face, I know I’m ugly.” Although the substance of the chorus position as negative, CL, Minzy, Bom, and Dara are seen ecstatically dancing not giving a care for the world. They are not going to be blinded by the expectations of others external preferences. They are aware that not everybody will find them flattering to the eyes, this is a remarkable illustration of inner beauty. 2ne1, will not follow the formula of physical prejudice, thus, hacking away from the idealistic views of others. As the video abruptly ends, an explosion occurs. This gigantic ball of flames is a symbol of walking away from the past, the past will only bring destruction upon the process of discovery. With their heads held up high and fierce look on their faces, they are ready to confront the world with a positive perception.
I chose to critique the movie Courageous. Courageous has everything you can ask for in a movie. It has action, comedy, and a very good message. The actors played the part very well. The plot of the movie was amazing. It's a very good inspirational story. It's not like other movies where they are promoting violence and negativism. Courageous promotes a powerful message of family unity, faith, and hope.Jessica V
raymond PerezI will be critiquing a comedy movie called horrible bosses.for a comedy movie to be funny it must reach certain requirements in order to be a success, it has to have a great cast, punny jokes, a great plot and, still be belivable. The movie horrible bosses met most of these expectations its cast was perfect because the actors seemed to compliment each other well,The jokes were all very funny and a few were reference jokes, the plot was great the idea of killing your bosses is something that people joke about so you can easily relate too,and they ending was very belivable and had a great twist.a few cons were some of the Jokes weren't that funny, some of the cast were b list celebrities, but there was o e spot in the movie that could have been left out because it made no sense to keep it in.side. ote the old spice guy was in it and that was cool
Samantha GallardoI have chosen to critique a meal I had over the weekend. It was my friend's birthday on Monday and the birthday dinner was planned for Friday evening. I did not have much to do with the planning, but made sure to tell my friend to choose a place where they serve chicken so that I could eat dinner with everyone else, since I can be a bit picky with food. My friend made sure they had chicken meals on the restaurant’s menu, and let me know that the menu included a chicken breast dinner plate that sounded perfect for me. I was pleased to hear this, as so did not eat much Friday before dinner. When we were given the menu at the restaurant, right away I looked for the plate my friend had already looked up for me and ordered it. I am usually a bit skeptical about new places and trying new meals, but feel that with chicken not much can go wrong. Unfortunately, this time the chicken plate went wrong. I had high expectations of how my meal would taste, considering we were having dinner at a nice, popular restaurant and knowing that I was having grilled chicken breast. After having seen how my meal looked I was disappointed, and was very unsatisfied after having tasted my chicken. The chicken breast looked like it had been grilled for too long and had a funny taste. All night I complained about how at this restaurant even by choosing a chicken breast dinner I had not been pleased, and yet lied to the waiter every time he came by and asked how everything was. In the future I will not have to lie to the waiter at the restaurant again, because I do not plan on going back.
Sarah GarciaOn October 3, 2011 I attended a fifteenth birthday party for one of my cousins. In the past, fifteenth birthday parties have been formal and mundane. This party however was casual and enjoyable. The hosts of the party were very helpful and the guests were well behaved. The food was excellent and there was a wide variety, hot dogs for the children and also food for the adults. The space was large enough to accompany the guests and there were no cramped spaces. The music however could have been more diverse so as to appeal to everyone. The majority of attendees were bellow the age of thirty but the music was directed to those who were older. The cake was a bit small for the amount of guests that attended which was possibly just an issue of judgment. At one point the automatic sprinklers turned on causing the guests on the dance floor too run out of the line of fire, but because all were in good spirits it was shrugged off and the party continued. The overall atmosphere of the party was fantastic and my family and I had a great time with great food and wonderful conversation.
Nick RossiterI chose to critique the James Bond movie "For Your Eyes Only." It was released in 1981 and starred Roger Moore as Ian Fleming's James Bond. It is based on one of Fleming's first series of short stories, published in 1960. The action/espionage film is filled with the usual characteristics of James Bond plots: a threat to England, suave MI6 spy, spy gear ahead of it's time that "Q" invented, flashy cars, attractive women, unrealistic fight scenes, and vodka martinis. An encoder used to code messages for England had come into the wrong hands and England's last chance was with James Bond to save it from the enemy. A good spy movie has to have good actors/actresses, plot, action scenes, audio and visual effects, script, cool gadgets and vehicles with guns. This classic Bond film touched on all of these. Of course Sean Connery is hard to beat, Roger Moore comes in a close 2nd as a really good Bond. Typically the films have an evil association of people disguised under an honest corporation, but this time a wealthy double agent for the KGB and MI6 slash drug trafficker finds an opportunity to sell the encoder to Russia. The film had some awesome chase scenes in the Alps, from being chased by motorcycles with machine guns while skiing, to racing a downhill "switchback" being shot at, all the while destroying a new Lotus. We follow James Bond around the Mediterranean on massive yachts, scuba diving and defeating henchmen. Of course at the end of it, England is safe and he's enjoying the company of some beautiful lady. One aspect of old movies I enjoy is the lack of music. The scenes are full of rich audio of the actual environment: vivid footsteps, glasses clanking, all the noise that today’s movies edit out with background music.
Tyler MoyerI decided to critique my favorite show Dexter on Showtime. And based on pass seasons, I have come up with some criteria for the season premiere. it should grab your attention to keep you watching every week,a start of a good plot , the return of the main characters, and the start of a situation or problem. Based on the criteria i felt that the season premier meet the criteria very well and can't wait for next weeks episode.
I chose to critique the new episode of Criminal Minds. That is my favorite show and I've been watching it for a really long time, so I would say I had high expectations for this episode. Every episode has you sitting at the edge of your seat, everything that happens is surprising and makes you get more and more into it. The actors are also tremendous. So, I expected this to be the same. This weeks episode was amazing, it was everything I expected; unexpected. I was at the edge of my seat the whole time. The actors hold nothing back, they make the viewer fall even farther into the series. Overall, this episode was fabulous.
Richard GomezI made my decision to critique a pair of Ugg Slippers. When deciding to get a pair of Uggs, one must make sure they get the right size. When getting a pair of uggs it is best to get half a size smaller because when worn alot they tend to get loose. Even though when you first wear them they are a little tight in a couple of days they will feel as if heaven is surrounding your feet. When getting your Uggs one shall make sure they feel just comfortable and soft. The Ugg stores usually sale separate soles with different levels of softness. While getting your slippers make sure you buy the sheep skin protector, sheep skin refresher, sheep skin cleaner and conditioner. When I got my first Uggs I made they were the right size, right color and that they felt comfortable. Now that I have been wearing Ugg slippers lately and now that their broken in, they are starting to feel as if heaven is surrounding my feet.
Last Friday I attended to the conference of Sal Castro and Mario T. Garcia. I chose to critique this event because for me it was amazing. They covered every single event of the protest of L. A. in 1968.Also, I was inspired by Sal Castro because he explained us the importance of the Chicanos in the United States. Finally, The presentation was relevant because now in Wall Street, New York City, thousand of college students are protesting against the corporate America. Garcia and Castro have different personalities. Garcia was very sophisticated in his vocabulary and Castro used a colloquial language. Also, Castro made some comments against the Americans and used words in Spanish, these aspects upset some Americans. After the conference, I stayed and both Castro and Garcia gave me an autograph. Castro’s signature was simple but Garcia’s signature was very dramatic with a lot of lines, these differences expressed their own personality. Olga Calderon
Miguel OrozcoI have always complaint there is not enough daylight on the day and that the weekend is not long enough. This weekend was no exception. I work full time and go to school full time, so by the time I get out of school and work it is late. Then, I am not able to pay some of my bills because they do not have automatic payment options through the phone. Since I am busy all weekdays, all I want to do on the weekend is to rest. It is not possible because I have to wake up early if I want to the bank. Places like the DMV, Banks, and the Post Office should open at 7am, close at 10pm and open 7 days a week. I bought and paid something on Ebay this past Saturday. Since the post office is not open on Sunday and closes early on saturday, I now have to hope that the seller ships it early Monday. To top it all off, I have been trying to cut my hair since September 11. Since I get out from school and work after 6pm, I do not have enough time to go and cut it. On Saturday it is packed, the lady that cuts my hair does not work, and on Sunday, nothing is open.
I chose to critique my experience as a customer at Outback Steakhouse. Although I do work there I promise to not have a bias critique. As a restaurant there are many things that come into factor that could make or break your service; customer service, morale, cleanliness, affordability, and most importantly, the food. After I got off of work last night I called a friend to come join me for dinner. When we first arrived we were automatically greeted and the Host opened the door for us, it was a perfect start. We were than greeted by another host and seated immediately, they were organized and knew exactly where they wanted to seat us next so we didn’t have to wait. Once seated we began to look through menus and after an estimated 3 minutes our server came to greet us, take our drink order and drop of bread. After dropping of our drinks we ordered our appetizer, which came out very quickly and was delicious. Our dinner was superb, cooked to the right temperature, and definitely worth what we paid. Unfortunately, for the rest of night our server did not do that well of a job, she forgot our refills 3 times, did not even bring out our dinner, another server did, and never stopped by to pick up the check and say goodbye. I understood that this poor service was only because I do work there, so I am not first priority, she had three other tables that she served excellently, so I know she is a great worker. But overall if I had to grade Outback Steakhouse I would give it another A to match the one gleaming in their front door that you can see as you walk out.
I chose to critique a show that comes out on Syfy called the Supernatural. My sister is in love with the show and she tells me how wonderful actors they are and how the show is so intense to watch. At first i didn't think too much of it because i rarely watch t.v., but when my best friends were talking about the show i knew at that moment that i had to watch it. I was expecting a great plot, wonderful actors, and dramatic scenes. Instead I didn't think Supernatural was that good. The plot wasn't original, nothing out of the ordinary; but the actors were not emotional enough, but there was a lot of drama. This is how i felt about watching Supernatural.Chie Sonoda
Megan ThompsonI decided to critique the movie Driver. I went to watch the movie at Eward's theater expecting it to be a trilling action movie the whoe time but it failed my expectations. Driver ended up being a kind of mystery movie where you had to try to figure out the guys attitude before you could understand the feel of the movie. He was a quiet man who has respect for the people that will respect him back, but he is also a driver who helps criminals rob places. He gives them five minutes to get the things they want then he tries and gets them away with doing the crime. It was only like that in two scenes of the movie and I was expecting that to happen a lot more. The movie then ended up being pretty grusome with the guys attitude. I understand he wanted to help this family (kid and woman) out, but he ended up killing people in terrible ways. The previews for the movie did not do it justice I thouhgt it was going to end up being more about the driving than the drivers life.
Amisha PatelI chose to critique the recently released film The Lion King in 3D. The Lion King is one of my favorite childhood movies and when I heard Disney was going to be presenting it in theatres again, I was super excited. I can’t say I was expecting much from the film because it’s a classic and I already know how great it is. However, considering that the original was released in 1994 and cinematography has come long ways since then, I figured that the new release would have improved graphics and color and that’s why I was so delighted to see it again. So while waiting in line to buy tickets for the movie, I couldn’t stop smiling. This may seem lame but I was honestly looking forward to watch this movie for days! As soon as the movie started and the song “Circle of Life” began playing, I thought, “Oh no, I’m not liking this.” The 3D ruined everything, there was no originality. The colors were muted to the extent that many things appeared in shaded colors. The characters also appeared as flat layers instead of normal rounded animals like in the original. The movie didn’t meet my expectations but at the end of the day I was still glad I got to watch it, I’d watch that movie any day, but nothing beats the VHS version! :-)
Gifty SackeyI chose to critique the children's channel Nickjr. My little niece who is currently three years old, spends a lot of time watching various programs on there. On a regular day, they would show a cartoon for about thirty minutes and then follow that with some puzzle or word search questions. The problem with this program is that, they constantly repeat the questions after each episode and never ask new questions during the day. So to someone like my sister who thinks that her daughter is very smart and excelling in academics, she might be wrong because my niece would have seen those same questions over and over again and probably wouldn't know how to answer it correctly if the questions were changed. As to this reason,I think that Nickjr should try and change thier questions as much as possible to ensure a better understanding of the material.
Mondo AlexanderI decided to critique a glass a kool aid. I know people might think its silly and kool aid is not hard to make but I think otherwise.I believe a good glass of kool aid takes effort, and not just adding water, kool aid mix and sugar in a pitcher. My mom made some kool aid a couple of days ago and I was highly disappointed. Kool aid should consist of a package of Kool aid(preferably grape Kool aid for African Americans), sugar, water, and a touch of soul. A person should be able to taste the soul in a glass of Kool aid. My mom Kool aid had too much sugar. It was like having diabetes in a cup. Kool aid should be sweet but not too sweet. When a glass is poured, there should not be sugar at the bottom of your cup. That means the pitcher of Kool aid was not properly stired. Stiring Kool aid comes the wrist(circular motions). Last but not least, it lacked originality. Originality would be like adding your own little spin to it. I did not see any lemons in the pitcher or strawberries, so the pitcher did not have a spin. It was a regular pitcher of Kool aid. She failed at making Kool aid.
I decided to critique a meal I ate which was In-In Out burger. A lot of people tend to eat there all the time, along with my self as well. So as I ate they I decided to focus on why the food and place is so popular. First thing that came up ,was the food's freshness. All of their food is freshly made and you can actually see them make it. The price of their is fairly cheap as well and the menu is the simplest one I have seen. Although most of the time the restaurant is busy and packed, the staff always provides great service when ordering food or asking for somthing. The food tastes great and it tends to be more healthier than other fast food restaurants. Overall In-In Out burger would get an 8.5 if i had to rate it.

I chose to critique my experience of attending a family barbeque. An ideal barbeque is composed of people eating food, conversing with one another, and having a great time. The event, in my opinion, was a success. They served hamburgers and hotdogs, which were cooked just right, along with chips and sodas. Condiments were available and there was cake for desert. Everyone who attended seemed comfortable and entertained through music and games. The location was just right because my friend’s backyard is surrounded with trees to provide shade. The weather was a plus because it was not too hot or too cold; It was a warm day with cool breeze. -Charmaine Parubrub
Im choosing to critique a song by Tupac Amaru Shakur named "Dear mama". I chose to critique this song in specific because i'm in adulation with the all-around lyrical aspects of the song. "Dear mama" was written as an ode for his mother Afeni Shakur back in 95. The only generalization as to why i adore this song is because although the song was written for his mother, it is fairly easy to relate to certain aspects of the song. Not to mention the beat is like no other in essential to the harmony on the chores of the song. On my behalf the lyrics are touching and in a way motivating. The song is just another reminder as to why i love my mother and why i should really appreciate what my mother has done for me and my brothers/sister.Razo.
Laura CastroThis is a little late, but since I wasn't in class or in town on Friday or over the weekend I decided I should do it anyways. Over the weekend I went to my uncles funeral, but it wasn't what I had expected. So I decided to critique funerals. I thought funerals are suppose to be really quiet and of course sad, so since I've never been to one I was expecting that. The funeral I went to over the weekend started out as a funeral should be, but then as the night went by it seemed as if people were losing respect or interest. People started being loud and wouldn't pay attention to their children so the kids would run around making a mess while being annoying. At one point, the people in the back drinking decided to turn up music and my grandma had to go back their and tell them to shut it off. That was very disrespectful and it is not appropriate at a funeral, but then again it was in Mexico. I think that if people aren't going to have respect toward the family, then there is no need for their presence.
I chose to critique the Fox premiere of the show called Terra Nova. I have always harbored an obsession with dinosaurs ever since I was a young boy in kindergarten. I had seen previews for the show on other channels and the show caught my eye. My criteria for the show was how exciting the plot was, how convincing the actors were, and also the special effects. The show went above and beyond the criteria I had set for it. The special effects for the animals was incredible and they looked extremely lifelike, to the point where you could even see the individual scales on the dinosaurs. The actors seemed very in tune with one another and their actions seemed to flow naturally which was very nice to see. The plot was also exceptional as it set up the futuristic dystopian world with background and identifiable characters. Pedro S. Naveiras
